In the United States, Black people who give birth are at least three times as likely to die from pregnancy-related complications than their white counterparts. And in Harris County, the risks are exponentially higher.

More than 80 percent of these cases are preventable – and amplifying the stories and experiences told of childbirth and pregnancy can play a huge role in changing the narrative.

We recently reported about some of the underlying causes behind the racial disparities that vary from changes in weight, to pregnancy-related complications, health disparities or implicit bias and discrimination in the medical field.
