CenterPoint Energy released an interactive map Tuesday night that gives some insight into Hurricane Beryl’s impact on Houston.

Lacking an official outage map, frustrated Houstonians had been relying on Whataburger’s app as a proxy for power outages.

Forest Brook Middle School is one of 28 HISD campuses undergoing state-appointed Superintendent Mike Miles’ major overhaul. This year, their rating jumped from an F to a B.

We spent two days inside the school to observe the new model. Here’s what we saw.

Throughout the year, we’ve centered our mission around how, where, and with whom we are sharing our journalism. By using analytics data, we’ve measured the performance of reporting against goals and benchmarks, continuously surpassing audience growth goals initially set at launch.

The Landing strategically set up partnerships with several news aggregators, established multiple social media flagship accounts, created distribution channels via SMS texting services, and led with SEO best practices, which all produced dividends in expanding our reach.

The Landing’s newsletters keep you in the loop on all things Houston, and this year we grew our offerings with three new newsletters. Uniquely HOU is a weekly look at the stories, art and events that get at the essence of what it means to be a Houstonian, and The Homeroom is a weekly newsletter dedicated to our education coverage throughout the region. We also launched Your Voice Your Vote, a five-part email course to coincide with our voter guide to get subscribers election-ready on their own terms, in their inbox.

Centering Houstonians is at heart of Houston Landing’s engagement strategy. In 2024, Houston Landing grew the reach and impact of its coverage with a series of in-person live journalism experiences designed to meet audiences where they are, in spaces that are relevant to their lives, and with materials and resources that are culturally relevant.

We prioritize connecting everyday people, stakeholders and those impacted by problems to the organizations creating solutions. Inspiring empathy, civic pride and a sense of empowerment to solve problems is at the center of our in person event strategy

“This experience was profoundly moving for me personally. And, as a reluctant Houston resident, dang it! I actually came away liking this town more. I had planned to go solo, but my 17 year old son decided to join me last minute. We had the best conversation on the drive back home. Thanks for being the catalyst for some high quality memory making.”
